arrival on the abbey craig - William Wallace, ink drawing

William Wallace and Andrew de Moray arrive atop the Abbey Craig, Stirling, in September 1297. Their joint armies had been besieging Dundee when news of the English army’s advance forced them to undertake a lengthy cross country march and take up a strong position on ground of their choosing – the high, rocky outcrop above Stirling Bridge where the Wallace Monument now stands.
