William Wallace and Andrew de Moray were made Guardians of the Realm following their dramatic victory at Stirling Bridge. Soon, however, de Moray died of wounds received at the battle and Wallace was left to govern a troubled and disunited kingdom on his own. Prominent lords did not like being ordered around by someone from the lower classes. Wallace learned swiftly that diplomacy was as important as the sword, because, he knew, the English would be back for revenge.
